Seasonal Scrapbooking

So often, we are busy trying to "catch up" in the scrapbook world, that we forget to just pause and reflect. Seasonal projects are a great way to do just that. When I talk about seasonal projects, I don't just mean Christmas and birthdays. For example, this month marks a time to remember.

Try and take time for a project of remembrance.
  • Make a card to drop off at the local Veterans' Club.

  • Post a LO on your blog devoted to the color red.

  • Think of the sacrifice made by those who gave all they had, what little it may have been, and design a LO.
  • Make a LO of family members who have served, or may be serving today.

  • Create a LO for the definition of Remember, without any photos.

The definition of "Remember": to retain in the memory, keep in mind, remain aware of.

After all, those of us that enjoy an art of expression like scrapbooking should always be thankful for those who fought for our right to enjoy it. :)

Happy November to all!

Tough to Scrap?

Every once in a while we come across photos or events that are hard to scrapbook into an album.

Sometimes, it's a life event, like when someone you loves kicks the crap out of a life threatening disease, and gets to walk a Victory Lap at the Relay.

You just don't know where to start without telling the whole story, and often, that is more than the heart can bear, so you put the photo back in the box, until the next time you revisit the concept.

Other times, perhaps it is a joyous event, and we fouled up the picture taking, or didn't take our camera at all. Where is a layout with a PHOTO?!?!?

(Yes, I know, spare me the comments.)

Painful memories? Trying times are some of the most important times to get into our albums. They remind the future that we came, we saw, we fell under attack, and we rose above. It will give them the hope they need. If you can't put the story out in front, write a letter and hide it in your layout. Or simply point form the LO with the 5 w's, and let it go, until you are ready to go further.

No photos? Don't be afraid to Google, or go Photo-free? Whether you have a paper bag (shopping), a program, your tickets, a map, a wristband, make it the Photo of your layout! It would be sad to leave out such a wonderful moment from your precious album just because you didn't hang onto your camera, and chose to jump up and down in the crowd instead :) BUT PLEASE NOTE: Always consider the acidic components of these items, and make sure you don't leave it too long...ideas tend to fade without a photo to reflect on :)

Enjoy,

And see you around!

P.S. Love you, Sis. You make me so proud!

Recycle it!

Here is a link to one of the greatest recycle/scrapbook ideas I have seen in a long time.
i think it's great because I believe most of us have these little babies kicking around somewhere in a drawer, or ziploc, etc.

http://naspinall.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-paper-flower-tutorial.html

It's from the Blog known as Nicnac.

What a great project to do as a little something while you watch the tube, and you can even bag them up and give them as a thank you for your fave scrapbooker, even if you aren't a flower lover.

Enjoy,

Happy July!

Summer Break

Wow! it's 24 degrees, got the sprinkler running and the photos are AMAZING!

Make sure to take plenty of photos, and create a summer journal, if you don't already have one!
It's great to track all the places you have been, and things you did to fill in the scrapbooking blanks later on.

Make sure that you don't submerse yourself so far into the craft, that you forget to make the memory.

Here are a couple of pictures you WON'T want to miss (in addition to the average events like family affair and weddings):

  • Drinks from the hose/sprinkler
  • Rainbows
  • Dancin' in the Rain
  • Campfire & Marshmellows
  • Corn on the the Cob
  • Berry Pickin
  • Sand castles
  • Freezies
  • Hiding in the Flowerbed
  • Looking for clams
  • Rubberboots
  • Bugs n Dirt

See you soon! Have a great Summer!

Inspiration

Here's a little something to inspire a summer page or two.
I loved the curvy lines. It made me think of sun, waves, and wheels....all the fun stuff of summer.
I'd love to see what you create with the layout.
Post a comment with a link to your layout, and show us your creative side!

Our cropping adventures!

Ever think about going to scrapbook crops and the little things that drive you crazy once you get there?
Well, here is a link to a discussion on a U.S message board about just that.
It made me laugh. I don't personally know any of these people, and maybe that's why it was funny. Anyway, the site is another great scrapbook resource, but this thread was entertaining.

Enjoy!

Dads rock!

June 20th is NOT far away! It's Father's Day!

Here is an awesome idea on the Martha Stewart site.
(Gotta love a gal that can do hard time and bounce back to scrapbook!)

How cute are these, even though my hubby is not often found in a suit and tie LOL.
Now go check out all the great things this superwoman has to offer! WOW!
Cheers!

Buried!

Well, folks, Spring has arrived indeed. We are all trying to spend that quality time in the yard, etc, and do not have the same commitment to our hobby. I have discovered that there is one part of this hobby I AM committed to, and it is burying me alive in the Scrap Trap (New name for my scrapbook room).

I am committed to the BUYING!!!!

I am a dedicated Cricut shopper, Creative memories Shopper, CTMH Shopper, Stampin Up Shopper, Ebay shopper, Michaels Shopper....you get the hint....
the problem is, I don't think I've completed a real project in weeks!!!!

The upside is, when I'm done in the yard....I'm gonna have a lotta fun in the Trap!!!!

Happy shopping, I MEAN GARDENING!!!

;)

Response: Out of the Box!

Man, I love it when people love a challenge! This was a response to my challenge of stepping out of the box. (see below)

My sister, Connie, created this sign for my son's new sandbox. The welding is done by my brother-in-law, Wes Blake, and the painting and vinyl work is created using cut files and imagery edited by my beloved Sista!

The teddy bear is found here: http://www.vermontteddybear.com

This is so FABULOUS! Thanks for your contribution and we can't wait to put this up in the backyard!

Have a crafty long weekend!

Outside the Box

Every once in a while I discover that I'm getting a little repetitive in my 'scrap groove'. I find I'm using the same old routine, the same old technique. Recently, I went back to basics and got a fresh start.
First, I sorted stacks of pictures that were about 3 years old. I weeded out the non-scrap photos, and put them in an album for my children to mangle. I filed the scrapworthy ones, and put them out for easy reach.
Then, I decided I would put a different spin on my layout for May, National Scrap Month. I mixed textures. I sanded, ripped, and curled edges. I even dug out my Disney princess cartridge and cut out a pair of Dorothy slippers. It felt good to stretch out of the box.
What have you done outside the box lately? Are you ready to stretch? Spring has sprung, so get out of that dark little corner and jump up at the chance to try something new!
I'll try to get those LO's posted for you soon!

Have fun!

A fun project!

This little item is called a desk caddy, made completely from cardstock, ribbon, and some great stamps from Stampin' Up! I discovered it looking for a teacher gift at Christmas time. As you know, it's getting to be teacher time again, so throw the apples aside, and get designing. They are sure to love something useful and beautiful for their desks or home.

With thanks...

Here are a couple basic cards we put together last night. What a stack of talent! From experience crafter's to new starts, there is some nice work here! Enjoy!

Happy Birthday, Baby!

It's my son's birthday today! The Big 3!

Sounds like a great reason to create a card! Birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day...all great reasons to dig out your card making supplies and get cracking!

A lovely lady told me she makes cards all the time, and files them by event...What an awesome tip!

(Can you tell I'm new to the cardmaking department? )

Good luck with the cards! Off to plan the birthday bash!

Later!

Mother's Day

Wow! Mother's Day is approaching and I could not help but love this line of Bo-Bunny Mamarazzi! Look at the awesome project built using these papers and embellishments! Can't wait to get my hands on these trays.

Make sure you think about Mom on May 9th. Make her a card, an album or write her a poem or a song...being a Mom is hard work. If you can't be with her, make sure you take a moment and think about all that Mom's do that they are never recognized for...there is no "job" like it.

Love you Mom!

Have a great week!

National Scrapbook Day!

It's right around the corner....May 1st is the traditional National Scrapbooking Day. However, a couple years ago, specific names in the industry realized that most of us FANTABULOS ladies (and some gents) have busy lives that can not always work around this date, and granted us an entire MONTH to celebrate this awesome craft!

Make sure you check in with your local retailers, online scrap suppliers and direct sellers (Close to my heart, Creative Memories, Stampin Up, etc.) to see what kind of great deals they are running this month! This is the big season for them, like Christmas :) )

Hope you can make time in your crazy month of May to celebrate NSD! Scrap, journal, sketch, take pictures, make a memory! Whatever you do, make sure it winds up in a scrapbook somewhere for generations to enjoy!

Have fun!

Until next time,

I took advantageof playing with that sunlight for some photo opportunities at work.

Make sure you pack up that camera and enjoy these few bonus days. If you send em to me, we'll make you famous here on the blog.

Is it worth it?

Wow! Just spoke yesterday with a fabulous young member of our local High Level Army Cadet Corps. They were the recipients of our fundraising efforts at the last event. These cadets travelled last weekend to a provincial Drill Competition.A competition based on marching skills, dress and deportment of the Army Cadet.

They took GOLD in the competition!

What awesome representation of this small northern town!

Well done!

When we work hard to put together local events, that support our youth, is all the effort worth it? You bet it is!

...where things will lead. Last weekend, March 20th to be exact, yours truly was the recipient of an annual community award here in High Level.

Citizen of the Year!

What the heck does that have to do with scrapbooking? Well, the nomination came on the heels of this event. It was recognition for 3 years of commitment to this wonderful, exciting event, and to the youth of this area.

It was surprising, thrilling, and just felt really awesome.
Thanks to everyone who helped pull this great big crazy idea together!
